Oil-wetting agent for solids and drill cuttings in SOBM/OBM systems. Prevents water-wet solids from destabilizing mud rheology. High salinity tolerance - effective up to 250,000 ppm TDS. Stable up to 90°C (194°F).

Sodium montmorillonite swelling clay - lowest-cost bulk viscosifier and wall-cake builder for freshwater WBM. Hydrates and exfoliates into a reversible gel structure, plating out a thin, low-permeability filter cake. Flocculates in saltwater or high-hardness water; breaks down above ~250°F (121°C).

A weak organic tricarboxylic acid produced by fermenting sugar feedstocks with Aspergillus niger. Chelates/sequesters metal ions (notably iron and calcium), lowers pH locally, and dissolves carbonate-based filter cake and scale since it is acid-soluble.

Regenerated cellulose film, shredded or flaked for use as an LCM. Thin, flexible, highly conformable flakes deform and pack into fracture faces, sealing lost-circulation zones. Being cellulose, it eventually biodegrades, reducing long-term formation-damage risk relative to permanent mineral LCM.

Surfactant blends, often ethoxylated block copolymers, dissolved in an aromatic or other solvent carrier. Migrate to the oil-water interface in produced crude oil emulsions, displacing natural emulsifying agents and allowing water droplets to coalesce and settle out.

An additive package built on boundary-lubrication chemistry - sometimes chlorinated/sulfurized paraffins, sometimes ester-based synthetics. Forms a durable lubricating film at metal-to-metal and metal-to-formation contact points under very high contact pressures found in directional and horizontal drilling.
