EP Lube
PZT-EPLUBE-1 is an additive package built on boundary-lubrication chemistry - sometimes chlorinated/sulfurized paraffins, sometimes ester-based synthetics. It forms a durable lubricating film at metal-to-metal and metal-to-formation contact points under the very high contact pressures found in directional and horizontal drilling, reducing torque, drag, and wear on the drill-string and downhole tools. Enables longer horizontal laterals and more aggressive directional drilling programs by keeping torque and drag within equipment limits, directly supporting the economics of modern unconventional well designs.

Use Cases & Applications
- Torque-and-drag reduction in extended-reach and horizontal wells
- Protecting downhole tool bearings and connections in high-load drilling operations
- Reducing the risk of differential sticking
Pros
- Substantial torque reduction achievable at relatively low treatment concentrations
- Available in both WBM- and OBM-compatible formulations
Cons & Limitations
- Chlorinated-paraffin-based EP chemistries face growing environmental/regulatory scrutiny and disposal restrictions
- Performance benefit must be balanced against potential interference with other rheology or emulsion-stability additives if overdosed
