Wax Dispersants

PZT-WAX-1 wax dispersants are polymeric, pour-point-depressant-type additives that co-crystallize with paraffin wax molecules as crude oil cools below its wax appearance temperature, disrupting the formation of a rigid wax crystal lattice and keeping wax dispersed as small, non-adherent crystals rather than a solid deposit. Used for flow assurance in waxy crude production and transport, especially in colder climates or deepwater/subsea tiebacks where produced-fluid temperature drops significantly between reservoir and surface. Prevents pipeline wax deposition, which otherwise progressively restricts flow area and can lead to complete blockage requiring extremely costly pigging, hot-oiling, or mechanical intervention.

Use Cases & Applications
  • Flow assurance for waxy crude production and transport, especially in colder climates or deepwater/subsea tiebacks where produced-fluid temperature drops significantly between reservoir and surface
Pros
  • Relatively low treatment concentrations are effective when matched correctly to the crude's wax chemistry
  • Can be combined with pour-point-depressant functionality in a single product
Cons & Limitations
  • Effectiveness is crude-specific and requires lab characterization (wax appearance temperature, wax content testing) to select the right chemistry
  • Loses effectiveness if injected downstream of where wax crystallization has already begun - must be dosed upstream of the wax appearance point
