SOBM Emulsifiers

PZT-EMU-P (Primary) and PZT-EMU-S (Secondary) emulsifiers are engineered for synthetic oil-based and oil-based drilling fluid systems. Together they deliver stable water-in-oil emulsions with Electrical Stability (ES) exceeding 800V at HPHT conditions above 300°F (149°C). Polyamide-based surfactant chemistry ensures drill solids remain completely oil-wet. Flash point >93°C (>200°F). Specific gravity 0.90–0.95 g/mL. Compatible with linear paraffins, internal olefins, and esters.

Use Cases & Applications
  • Primary and secondary emulsifier packages in SBM/OBM drilling fluid systems
  • HPHT and deepwater wells where WBM shale inhibition alone is insufficient
  • Maintaining stable water-in-oil emulsions through drilled-solids or formation-water contamination
Pros
  • Excellent emulsion stability even at high temperature and under solids or water-influx contamination
  • Enables very low water-phase permeability, minimizing filtrate-driven formation damage
  • Delivers the shale inhibition, lubricity, and thermal stability that make OBM/SBM the preferred choice in extreme HTHP wells
Cons & Limitations
  • Significantly higher cost than WBM chemistry
  • Heavier environmental and regulatory scrutiny on OBM systems (cuttings disposal, offshore discharge restrictions)
  • Emulsion can still break under severe contamination - major water influx or high-salinity kicks require careful ongoing monitoring
Primary EmulsifierPZT-EMU-P
Primary non-ionic/amine-based surfactant that forms and stabilizes the water-in-oil emulsion: the core chemistry that makes an invert-emulsion system viable at all.
Secondary EmulsifierPZT-EMU-S
Co-emulsifier used alongside the primary emulsifier to reinforce emulsion stability under contamination stress: water influx, drilled solids, or high-temperature conditions.
