Retort Kit

The retort is how the oil/water ratio of an invert system is actually known rather than assumed. A measured sample is heated until the liquid fractions distil off and condense into a graduated receiver; what remains is the solids volume, obtained by difference. Getting this wrong propagates into every subsequent decision about barite loading, emulsifier dosage and dilution — which is why it is run on a schedule rather than on suspicion.
