Amine Treated Lignite
PZT-LIG-A is a chemically modified, amine-treated lignite (organophilic lignite) used as an HTHP filtration control agent in oil-based and synthetic-based drilling fluids. The amine treatment is what makes it oil-dispersible: untreated lignite is a water-wet material and will not disperse into an oil-continuous system, which is why a standard lignite cannot simply be substituted here. Once dispersed it builds a thin, low-permeability filter cake that holds fluid loss down at high temperature and pressure. Typical treatment is 2.0 to 8.0 lb/bbl (5.7 to 22.8 kg/m3) depending on the target HTHP fluid loss and the mud system temperature. Supplied in 25 kg multi-wall bags.

Use Cases & Applications
- HTHP filtration control in oil-based and synthetic-based drilling fluids
- Deep, high-temperature wells where standard fluid-loss additives degrade
- Invert-emulsion systems requiring a thin, low-permeability filter cake
Pros
- Oil-dispersible, so it works in oil-continuous systems where untreated lignite cannot
- Holds HTHP fluid loss at elevated temperature and pressure
- Low moisture (≤ 5%) supports consistent dispersion
Cons & Limitations
- Not interchangeable with untreated or causticised lignite, which will not disperse in oil
- Chemically modified mineral: confirm classification and disposal requirements for the operating area
