Mica Flakes
PZT-MICA-F mica flakes are a naturally occurring, platy silicate mineral, ground and sized as a lost-circulation material. The flat, plate-like particles bridge across pore throats and micro-fractures in the formation face, physically blocking whole-mud loss into naturally fractured, vugular, or highly permeable zones. Chemically inert and compatible with essentially any mud system, water- or oil-based, and available across a wide particle-size range for engineered fine/medium/coarse blends matched to estimated fracture width.

Use Cases & Applications

Pros
- Cheap and effective bridging agent
- Doesn't react with or interfere with other mud additives
- Can be pumped as a standalone LCM pill or blended into the active system
Cons & Limitations
- Does not dissolve or degrade - can permanently plug near-wellbore permeability if used in a productive (pay) zone
- Less effective alone in very wide fractures without a fibrous/granular LCM blend
- Flakes break down under sustained pump shear, weakening the seal over time
